Epilepsy refers to ‘Apasmara’ in Ayurveda. This issue happens as a result of irregular electrical changes in the mind cause seizures in which the patient not able to respond properly. In other words, the patient’s learning ability decreases and he/she may get confused or unconscious. It is estimated around 5 – 10% of the total world’s population above age 80 experience seizure at once, however, it is not compulsory that they undergo epilepsy. Fits or sudden attacks generally seen in this disease.
Epilepsy causing factors are either hereditary, metabolic or configured but in 60% cases the reason for epilepsy is not practically found. Sometimes the pregnant mothers face delivery issues leads to tumors, head damage, brain infections at birth time. It might be the reason for causing epilepsy in the younger population. Old Ayurveda specialists conclude that inappropriate use of sense organs and unhealthy food habits is the birth of “Apasmara”.
